Lions KidSight is a Vision Screening program for children from 6 months old to 6 years old to find children who are at risk for Amblyopia and other vision issues. We also screen children in schools to 12th grade.

Here is a history of the program.

Locally we have conducted many screening sessions at local schools, daycares and health fairs. We have a number of state certified vision screeners in our group and one of them is always present at the screening. The screeners use a PlusOptix electronic screener that allows the child to be 3 feet way from the screener. The screen typically takes less than a minute and gives a "Pass" or "Refer" result.

If "Refer" the system prints a label with the diagnostic information. Lions do not diagnose or comment on the diagnostic information but attach the label to a letter for the parent, who then takes it to an eye specialist for further diagnosis.

It is rare for a screening to have zero "Refers" and often as many as 10% to 15% are referred.
